Well, if you can not swallow, there are really only three possibilities: hunger, a nasogastric tube or participation.
Of a natural gas pipeline will increase the risk of sinusitis, if left too long, when people need a long term solution, the connection is often chosen. This is a minor procedure under local anesthesia and requires a low risk, rather than every time a foreign body penetrates into the body, can add to increase the risk of infection and a low incidence of complications of the procedure.
But I think that may be useful to step back and wonder if this is something the patient wants, if not something to eat or high risk of aspiration, hunger is an alternative, but not everyone wants to extend her life by all means necessary - it is, the PEG tube is a quality of life, or it may only prolong the suffering (of course, have to give most of the PEG tube studies do not support that significantly extend the life). This is obviously an intensely personal diciembreission I can not even begin to do to another person (and not), I think it is an option to be taken into consideration and should aggressively treat the symptoms of discomfort trying instead to prolong life. What is the best approach depends on the person, but both routes are available.
